Website Updates

July 15, 2023:  I used this site a guinea pig to test some backend stuff before deploying it on another website that I manage for a non-profit. Good thing I guinea pigged it because I broke a lot of stuff! If you click through the site, you’ll notice a lot of dead images, etc. It’s gonna take me some time to fix it all so please bear with me. Thank you.

December 4, 2021:  I’ve deactivated the media section (though I will keep the backend of the media section updated as best I can in case I decide to revive it later in some form). I might post random items in the blog section every so often, but for now you can generally expect this site to be in maintenance-only mode unless and until I revamp everything.

May 20, 2020:  Just a quick note that I removed the Tumblr widget from the website since the API seems to have broken down and I wasn’t updating the Tumblr feed anyway.

February 5, 2020:  I likely won’t have time to do any substantive updates soon, but I’m just popping in to note that I upgraded the photo system to Piwigo 2.10.x, which should hopefully give the photo section a slightly more modern look. I’m still trying to figure out how to configure the coding on this application so the look is still a little off, but hopefully I’ll get it the way I want it one day. I also made some minor edits to the widgets at right; hopefully these changes make the pages of this site less cluttered.

March 16, 2017: Made some updates behind the scenes over the last week. The widgets to the right should now be displaying slightly better, and the images should show some updated content. My interests section has also started to build out, finally, with some  (incomplete) content about some airliners. Similar updates will come through over the next few weeks, if current trends hold.

June 30, 2016: Apologies; I know updates are a bit few and far between lately. However, I finally have a new album up — 46 photos of my friends from 7th grade! Behind the scenes, I’ve slowly been moving existing albums into the new Piwigo system.

I have a few new projects in the works, but they’re moving very slowly since I don’t have much free time. However, one that I’m determined to keep going is a new website/blog devoted to Oahu shipping news and media, with a focus on the activity in and around Honolulu Harbor and Pearl Harbor. Please go take a look!

July 29, 2015: Three new things. First, there are now 35 new photos online from our time at ‘Aiea Intermediate School as 7th graders. A lot of the photos are horrible but give me a break–I was 12 years old when most of these photos were taken. Thanks to Nina, I’ve been able to scan a ton of old photos (something I’ve wanted to do for the last 5 years), so there are a lot more where those came from (and of much higher quality than the ones online right now too).

Second, I added a widget to the sidebar that shows random new photos from the website gallery. I am still messing around with the style sheets of the sidebar so please bear with me.

Third, please let me introduce a new “sub-site” that I have had on the backburner for a while: a #ThrowBackThursday blog! You can find it online at http://tbt.kewli.es. The intent is for a new throwback photo to be posted online on Thursdays. I added a feed of the blog to the sidebar as well. I hope you find this feature enjoyable!

June 30, 2015: Nina C. lent me her awesome photo and negative scanner (yes, I had one of these before, but it’s currently on permanent loan with the ‘Aiea Community Association). With this scanner, I’ve been able to get higher quality scans of certain photos in the media section (specifically those in the Piwigo galleries). As I get photos re-scanned, I’ll add them to the website. One album has been updated so far; more will come. New photos are forthcoming as well.

June 6, 2015: Two quick updates. First, check out these four videos from the 2005 marching band season, including videos of ‘Aiea, Moanalua, Kahuku, and Kapolei High Schools. I have many more videos from that marching season that I hope to get online at some point. Second, the photos of the ‘Aiea High School 2001 Winter Ball have been moved to the new photo platform.

June 2, 2015: Some incremental changes have been made over the past few days. First, a new album is online documenting our hiking adventure at Mariner’s Ridge in 2012, complete with 28 photos and one video. Second, I’ve migrated the photos from the 2001 ‘Aiea Intermediate School talent competition to the new Piwigo photo platform.

May 27, 2015: The site migration is finally complete! The site has been rebuilt using WordPress, with a brand new look and at a brand new location! (https://kewli.es). Thank you for your patience as we migrated over. If you see any links or images that broke during the migration, please let me know.

In the move, some sections got removed (due to sheer ridiculousness–most of the website outside of the media section hasn’t been overhauled in 5+ years), so if you see anything missing, that might be the reason why. Hopefully, the new site is more accessible and easier for everyone to use! Hopefully, more content will come soon!

This website relaunch was meant to coincide with today being the 10th anniversary of my high school’s graduation. Congratulations to all my old classmates!

January 3, 2015: I am beginning the process of converting the media section (which until now has been written and coded entirely by hand) to a new CMS system (Piwigo). This means, hopefully, in the long run, that this section will be easier to maintain and media can be added to the site faster.

So far, I’ve moved five of the 15 albums on this website to the new platform (60+ photos). The photos and descriptions in these albums have been refreshed where apropriate. More will be moved at a later date, along with some brand new media.

The new platform brings with it a number of new features and a degree of interactivity that didn’t exist on the older platform, which I hope to detail in a future update!

May 16, 2014: Just in time for their second wedding anniversary, I’ve uploaded 55 videos and one video from Kristine and Jon’s weding! And more will come soon!

Also note that I am merging the pictures and videos sections of the website together into one big section, since many future video uploads will overlap with events that are already in (or will be in) the pictures section. A small amount of unimportant content was lost that I will eventually reupload to this website.

The guestbook has been archived, because it seems like Dreambook is going to be or has already been discontinued. I’m not going to replace it but you can still view the old entries.

Finally, I got rid of the blank library section, at least for now, since the section was essentially empty.
